ASTM C1338

Standard Test Method for Determining Fungi Resistance of Insulation Materials and Facings

This test method assesses the fungal resistance of new insulation materials and their facings.

Objective: Determine the ability of insulation materials and facings to resist fungal growth.

Procedure: Five different fungi strains are inoculated onto test samples under controlled laboratory conditions conducive to mold growth. The samples are observed over a 28-day period (approximately 4 weeks).

Evaluation: The test evaluates whether the materials support or resist fungal colonization and growth.

TURN AROUND TIMES:
4 to 6 weeks (about 1 and a half months)

Sampling/Test Requirements:

Triplicate specimens from each test sample are required. If the test sample is of different construction on each face, prepare triplicate specimens of each face. The preferred specimen thickness is 0.75 in. (20 mm).
